The executive branch of an executive democracy is the head of state and related departments, so in the case of the US you're talking about the white house (president + cabinet offices).

Edit: In response to in_dog below: The UK isn't an executive democracy is probably why they don't know the answer! The UK is a parliamentary democracy, which most would argue is the kind of democracy that should be exported overseas. You may have noticed the UK has a prime minister instead of a president...

Depends on the Country and since you didn't say which one, you must be an American (since we tend to think nobody else matters).

The way you phrased the question, maybe you are asking what are its attributes/powers?
Appoint judges.
Police powers.
Sign legislation.
Command military.

Here in thye UK most people don't know the answer. They want to spread democracy to petrol rich countires but they don't even know the basic principles of a democracy!
