For a year now, I have been having swelling of the calf and KANKLES (that's what they look like when swollen) and I want to know how to help it stop. Cutting back on sodium has NOT helped but the one thing that did help was the Master Cleanse diet but since I have stopped for almost a month now, the water retention has started again. Qu'est que c'est?

Elevate you feet in the afternoon. Also, you might want to try compression stockings. You can get them at pharmacies and a lot of health plans cover them.

You can also try soaking your feet in epison salts to temporarily remove excess water.

There is not much you can do. I do not know what a Master Cleanse diet is but most of these are fad diets and only work temporarily as you found out. I might suggest just talking to your doctor for water retention pills.

Odd as it may sound you should be drinking LOTS of water; a rule of thumb is: if you feel thirsty you are dehydrated....as well as cutting back on sodium. Eating out is a sure fire way of getting more sodium than you realize as is eating any sort of prepared food such as canned soups and vegetables .Note; Most so-called "diet" foods make up for removing sugar by adding sodium...Put your feet up as often as possible. What does the doctor say???

Dear Lady,
Get to a doctor immediately! You may have a heart condition that is severe and the symptomotology that you describe is associated with such a condition. Whenever your body retains fluids to the point that your extremities exhibit such massive edema (swelling) you are already in a life threatening situation.
Don't delay any longer, and for God's sake don't try another diet! This may just kill you! If you can't get a hold of a doctor now, then go to your local hospital's emergency room. They will assist you with your condition!
Please, please, please get help NOW!!!!! Best of luck to you!

It sounds to me like you have a medical condition known as Edema...my exes mom had this condition..usually called by mal nutrition...or excessive drinking.

What I have heard helps is to drink a lot more water, eat healthier meals and get a lot of exercise..and cut back on drinking if you do...it can go away, but it will take a lot of work..I would also recommend going to your doctor to discuss exactly what is causing this issue..

Have you gotten your blood pressure checked recently? High blood pressure can cause that kind of swelling.
