From my experience first would be clothing, lingere, leather, black, etc. Second (maybe third) would be pain, spanking, pinching, hair pulling, scratching, etc. Third (could be second) would be erotic role playing.

I would think the most popular is bondage. Even relatively 'vanilla' people seem to get a kick out of trying handcuffs, even though most BDSMers think they're pretty tame.
