This is made by a famous Welsh clock-making family. The papers are with my family and I have forgotten the name. Help! This poor thing is getting in worse and worse condition.

You could do what I did. I had an Eli Terry clock (pioneer clock maker here in Ontario circa 1790), that was handed down to me by my father. It had wodden gears and works, needing substantial repair, that was far out of my budget to deal with and I didn't want to risk letting some modern day watch maker go at it.
I lent it to the Royal Ontario Museum. They took care of restoration costs, have it on display on occasion and it still belongs to me. I can withdraw it from the museum collection at any time, but currently have it willed, in place, with my Niece. I now own one of only two working Terry clocks in the world. Why not check around your local museums for a similar arrangement? One is bound to have a qualified conservator.
