The key is on the wireless router/access point you're trying to use. Connect to the router with an ethernet cable. DHCP will push out your ip scheme (from a command prompt type "IPCONFIG /ALL". The default gateway number will be the router's number. Open up internet explorer and type "http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" (the x's are the router's IP numbers.
With the username and password you can then access the router's configuration menu and find the key.
If you don't have the username/password, push the reset button on the router and hold it for about 5 seconds. This resets it to the defaults. You can then access the router and generate a new key.

If the wireless is using a wep key you can use a network sniffer on the wireless network, wep does not encrypt the key and it is in the header of every packet and easily read in a sniffed packet, for WPA you will need to either find the original key as WPA encrypts the key and adds it to the encrypted packet, or reset the router to out of box status and then you can set the key yourself.

If you are setting up the network, it is you who will determine the keys.

If the network was set-up by another person, then that person, the network administrator, will know the key. The keys cannot be see in clear text once it is input to the router or the PC.

You ask the person who enabled the wep for the key.
