Coldest Alaska
As you would expect, the coldest temperature ever officially recorded in the United States was in Alaska.

It was -79.8 degrees Fahrenheit - rounded off to minus 80 degrees - observed at Prospect Creek Camp in the Endicott Mountains of northern Alaska on Jan. 23, 1971. The Prospect Creek Camp is along the Alaska pipeline about 20 miles north of the Arctic Circle.

No, Alaska is the coldest and Hawaii is the wettest (Mt. Wai'ale'ale on the Hawaiian island of Kauai is the wettest spot on earth). rather, the Pacific Northwest is extremely temperate as a results of jet flow & the warmth ocean. The Northeast is plenty chillier as is the Northern Plains.

the pacific northwest has lots of rain, but is rather temporate in comparison to, say, the plains states or the mid west. middle united states get to experience harsh, cold winters, sometimes with lots of snow, and then hot, humid summers as well. never a dull moment.
