Will try for two for the price of one Is the Allien and Sedition Act of 1798 still on the books?

The alien act mainly focused on persons crossing our borders especially illegally. The Patriot Act even though it touches on that gives broader permission for surveillance and snooping of the government including broadening their power in the courts and not gathering a warrant etc.

Almost the same, but not quite. The Alien and Sedition acts weren't worded as vaguely as PATRIOT, and PATRIOT takes these steps against citizens as well as aliens. Of course, these aren't the only things.
