To start with i am English married to a Pinay. The first time I travelled to the Philippines I stayed in Paco, Manila and although I found Manila very polluted it took nothing away from my enjoyment of the country. In the following five weeks I was to see many sides of your country. I saw the rich modern areas like Makati, a beautiful city and I saw the poor side when I travelled to areas like Pangasinan. I have made good friends with members of the Manila police and good friends with members of the N.P.A and those friendships will last longer than any of my western friendships. I have seen an old man on his knees crying and thanking us for a shopping bag of food we gave out for christmas and I have rubbed shoulders with rich men at the Shangri La hotel. I have witnessed the hospitality of the Filipino and the deadliness of the motorcycle gangs. I have cryed as i watched a family at christmas seeing their house burn down and I have seen the New Year in. Since then I have been Philippines many times and last time i travelled there I bought house there. Philippines and the Filipino people are my idea of paradise.

I was born and raised in California but both of my parents were raised in the Philippines. I just got back from a two week vacation there yesterday. Yes, there are many poor areas but it's the culture that is rich. The best times I had there were times that I did the same activities as the locals (riding in tricycles and jeepneys as opposed to a taxi, using a bucket to wash instead of a shower, swimming in an irrigation ditch instead of a heated swimming pool, bargaining at markets instead of a mall).
Someone else had complained about the trash but I didn't think it was that bad. People living in the united states dump trash in forest reserves all the time (and it's strictly prohibited!). It's an amazing country. Everyone should try to go there (or anywhere else) to experience different cultures.

The Philippines is a beautiful country, I fly down once a month for a weekend of flying lessons at Omni Aviation in the Clark Special Economic Zone and have visited over 25 times in all, traveling all over the country.
Flying over Pinatubo on your way to Iba, or through the valley to Baler, or up into the mountains for lunch in Baguio, a quick flight around Mount Ariel, the rice Paddy's on the way to an afternoon at lingayen, or a trip around 100 islands.....simply breathtaking scenery. The beach and sea at Boracay is so beautiful I find it hard to describe to people who have not visited...picture sand as white and as fine as powder.
The people are kind, caring, hospitable and most importantly full of hope and optimism in the face of hardship and poverty, the Filipinos love to sing and dance they know how to have fun, even in a brown out, typhoon and flooding they wont stop smiling, get on with things and never complain.
Unfortunately, the Philippines is not without many problems, Communist rebels in the North, Muslim rebels in the south, crime, corruption, poverty, a population explosion....massive destruction of the mangrove forests and tropical reefs, exploitation of the natural resources, a growing trade imbalance, 8 million Filipinos working abroad, high unemployment, massive brain drain, huge religious influence in politics....
anyway, that's my 2 cents, now back to work :(

I will be returning for my 3rd visit to the Philippines on the 23rd of August. If it weren't for coming to be with my wife I would not come back. Everywhere I went there were incredible amounts of garbage and everyone stared at me constantly. Am I the only 6' 4" white guy ever to come to that country? I know it is very cheap to live there compared to the USA, but you need money to live.
Everyone in my wife's family thinks I am very rich because I came there for her, but I work hard (70 hours a week) and save hard so I can be with her until she gets here. All of them have asked for money and most of them have their own business. They don't help their parents and they all think that now it is my responsibility to support the parents. Boy are they ever wrong!

I think it is a great country. I hear wonderful things about the beaches in Boracay and Cebu. I know the government is a bit corrupt but the people seem to be working hard to change that.
Filipino people are kind, hard working, religious, family oriented and just really cool. Maybe I am biased cause my girlfriend is Filipino.

I first visited Philippines bout 3 years ago and i found it amazing!!! Im now currently living here so let me tell u something about it on my very own point of view... Philippines has 7107 islands in all (low tide, since only7100 appears at high tide) With this so many islands of course so many beaches and island resorts. Philippines is divided into 3 major large islands..that is, LUZON, VISAYAS and MINDANAO. With this, A portion of Mindanao ( bout half of the region) is the one known to be where the troubles coming from but its not like the situation in the current war in the middle east.in fact, there are even cities in Mindanao that are even considered to be safe(I've been to Davao City already). To play safe (just what i did the first time i came here) I tried Luzon, i suggest Bicol Region. The Place where you can find the ever famous perfect cone volcano, the Mayon Volcano (currently attracting thousands of fellow tourist already due to its expected erruptiuon very soon), http://purpleeyes-mayonvolcano.blogspot....
interact with the Whalesharks in the Whaleshark Capital (in Donsol Sorsogon). Join the Religious Pilgrimage in honor of Our Lady of Peñafrancia in Basilica del Peñafrancia. Dive into the deep in Virac Catanduanes (I even enjoyed Surfing there)and enjoy the hot and cold springs and white sand beaches. Camp and hike inside the protected virgin forest of the region(Lots of tropical birds and butterflies...).Not to mention the unique native specialty and delicacies of evey town here....
I've tried all these that I have mentioned to you, its really fun and the accomodation here are good and very cheap!!!
Hope ull find this helpful...

I went there - my brother married a Phillipina. It is very beautiful country, but the people are economically poor. It is very difficult, being American, to truly understand. We went through some of the poor areas of Manila and it makes me sad to think of. I think Americans take lots of things for granted that we shouldn't.
