From the facts you've provided you do have a case. The thing is that you haven't provided all the facts needed. You should try to find a good personal injury attorney. Call your state bar association and get at least five referrals.Your looking for an attorney that has been in practice for at least ten years and has worked many injury cases. Go to the library and look up the five attorneys in Martindale. It's a attorney rating system. You want to find attorneys on your referral list that have A V rating. Call for an appointment and during that appointment ask the attorney whether they have mal-practice insurance and what they can tell you about their relationship with the judges that might be assigned to your case. You want an attorney that is respected by the judges and even good attorneys can fall out of favor with judges. Be totally honest with your attorney and follow his or her instructions.

How did the elevator lead to back injuries?
In court you will have to PROVE that the landlord is:
«directly/indirectly responsible for these injuries occuring.
«was made aware of this problem(elevator) and was given ample oppertunity to rectify, but chose not 2.
Got the recipts for the medical attention? 'cause as a minimum you should be able to make 'em front the cost(providing you can prove fault was reported(neighbours should be able to help there).)
