This paragraph is discussing goofs that took place in a movie. Which movie?
In a scene, Loretta says "ti amo" to her father, and he answers "ti amo." While the accepted English translation of the Italian expression "ti amo" is "I love you," the Italian expression refers only to romantic love, and would never be used between father and daughter. The expression "ti voglio bene" would be used instead.

Um, I'm Italian-American (born in America) and my Father's side of the family is very into our culture. Infact, my Dad and Grandmother are New Yorkers, and speak fluent Italian and German. I speak it pretty well myself, and "ti amo" is used as both the regular and lust-filled "I love you". I honestly don't think it matters, but "ti voglio bene" is more common.

And other than that, I can only think of the Godzilla movies in Japan. There's always some sort of spoof when they translate it over, and even in the original version. ^_^

I will have to disagree with you. My Italian friend says "ti amo" to her mother, her father, her brothers and her neice, on a regular basis.
