I think Christians that have a problem with gay people rather smirk on the inside when they see anything Phelps!

They say, "He's not the kind of Christian I would ever be", but in reality they have the same feelings about gays as Phelps, but they tone it down so they "look good".
It's all about looks, you know.
Just watch TBN....you'll see beautiful mannequins all gussied up.

I think they really do love Phelps' tactics....while they sit on the sidelines and Boo him.

Oh gosh no. Even most homophobic people don't wish death on everyone, or blame the problems of the world on gays. Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church people are the true nut cases of the Homophobic World.

However, other homophobes do support them, in that they both profess that Leviticus 18 is the beginning and end of God's word.

Westboro tells it like it is. They don't mince words. Other Christians will say they want to pray for you and to get you to be saved, and to be welcomed in their church. That's a load of you-know-what. Gay people have never been welcomed in any salvation church. The church simply does not trust gay people, and gays know that.

At least with Westboro, what you see is what you get. There is no hidden agenda.

I've seen many gay people leave Baptist and Pentecostal salvation churches in total disgrace -- because of the GOSSIP and malicious intent of the members! And these were senior church people, folks who had been immersed in the gospel since they were kids. But yet they couldn't control their gossiping tongues and people were slandered -- all in the name of God.

So with Westboro, they ain't gonna tell you it's nice to see you and we want to save you, blah blah blah. They tell the REAL DEAL, when the others will not.

No. Most Christians I know are awfully homophobic, but wouldn't dream of talking like this. They also hope to "save" us LGBTs before we go to hell; Phelps doesn't believe that can happen. I think the organization does function as a real extreme that slightly milder phobes like James Dobson can point to and say, "See, *they* hate; *we* just hate the sin but love the sinner".

No, I don't think they represent most Christians. Start with the fact that the majority of Christians are NOT literalists. They can't represent them.

On the other hand, I think they represent the dominion theologians pretty well -- though they don't realize it. The Christian Reconstructionists are the most dangerous of the fundamentalists, and though I'm sure Phelps doesn't think of himself as one -- and the Reconstructionists (Dominionists if you prefer) would rather no one think of him as one -- he does seem to be one.

The only difference is that Westboro Baptist Church has the intestinal fortitude to actually say how they truly feel.

Wait, please. I am a baptist and do NOT follow "westboros" decree of hatred. Do as you wish, with whom you wish as long as no minors, invalids, or animals get hurt.
