The author of such memorable phrases as : "who hasn't sinned, cast the first stone" (or something like that), who dined with the poor and prostitutes while others thought he was nuts, who preached tolerance and was bullied for it....Don't you think he'd be called a crazy, tree-huggin liberal right now by the same conservatives that use his name right now?
Why is his name used in explaining intolerance today ?( hate the gays, women, immigrants, mexicans, arabs, blacks, everybody that dont look like you basically..) While he maybe didn't agree with someone's lifestyle, did he ever treat anybody like second class citizens?

In one particular quote of scripture, Jesus overturned (flipped over) tables outside of a church that he was visiting.. He said to the ministers there...
"You are turning my Father's Temple into a den of thieves." He was very angry. They were selling offering for "God" and the money was being misused, and they were ripping people off.
Jesus also (according to scripture) caused a fig tree to wither and die in a farmers field. This prevented the man who owned it from having to pay taxes on it. It was not bearing fruit and at that time people were taxed by the number of trees that they owned.
His own deciples questioned his actions.
Yes, Jesus was a liberal, only liberals can free criminals and forgive them. ( if they can forgive themselves and move forward)
There are definitely more examples than this.
The Tax collecter, and the fish with the coin in it's mouth , the prostitute... "Let he who is amongst you without sin ast the first stone.... Contact the Universal Unitarian Chuch, science is the was the toolof creation, gay, by,or staight, we all have purpose. We are all individuals.
What part of "Thouh shalt not kill" don't you understand?
Yes, President Bush, I am talking to you!

Jesus's message was meant to guide an individual's personal life, not a society's political structure. Jesus didn't really get into matters of politics. As such, it is pointless to debate whether he would be a liberal or a conservative, especially considering that he lived in a world radically different from our own.

That's an interesting question. The Catholic Church, who strives to emulate Jesus, considers itself BOTH Liberal and Conservative.
This was a question asked of one of their Cardinals when the new Pope was named, and a member of the news media asked him if he was too "conservative."
His answer, which I believe applies to Jesus himself, was that, "The Church is Conservative in the sense that it will always strive to conserve those standards that Christ has established for us... and Liberal in the sense that it will always strive to serve the poor. No organization in the world does more for the poor than the Catholic Church."
So... Liberal, yes... but also Conservative.

Totally right. Even though the Bible calls homosexuality a sin (and I myself consider it one), we should not discriminate people who have wrong tendencies but instead show them the way. I wouldn't really care a if a gay person came into my church because the holy spirit can change him/her. It's no different than if a person who practices lying or gossiping came in!

Maybe before you post a question like this, you should pull out your Bible & check into who Jesus is. Don't take anyone else's word for it. Read it for yourself.
I don't think He is a liberal. Not in the same context as what we call a "liberal" today. He was a bit unorthadox in His time, but hardly a liberal.

Most people who hate gays, blacks, overweight people, hispanics, people with 2 different colored eyes, people who write with their left hand.....quite from the old testament. Because you are right. Jesus fought for equality and walked with lepers, prostitutes and tax collectors.

uh... mia2kl2002... those ideas (Jesus' ideas) were new at the time, therefore quite liberal... now that the catholic church has been following them for years, they are conservative... but at the time he was quite liberal... even by your definition...
