What kind of effect would it have on Earth?

If the moon were torn aparty by some big asteroidal impact, them pieces of it would no doubt fall out of orbit. These pieces would most likely be big enough to bring about the extinction of the human race, if not tear the Earth apart.
If the moon were to simply vanish, or its orbit changed so that it no longer orbited the Earth, then we'd be in better luck. Tides would get messed up (they would still happen to a lesser degree, due to the gravitational force exerted by the sun). Eclipses would no longer happen. Our night sky would be much darker. Interest in space exploration might wane, with the loss of our nearest celestial body, making it that much harder for humans to set foot on some other astronomical body.

If our moon became destroyed the outcomes on earth would be enormous. the main instant result stands out as the shortcoming of communications with the worldwide satellites in area, the two maned and unmaned: all of them matter on mirrors that are on the the moon that reflects numerous waves OR alerts to and from earth. Then the oceans currents and waves will flow rogue inflicting considerable shifts in magnetic poles and in so the climate will with out postpone worsen. final effects stands out as the air wherein we breath will exchange into much less and much less dense, plant existence will die in some factors and different places flowers, Animals and bugs could have an great improve in length. New land will Terra style into jungles and rain forests. the sole different possibility stands out as the oceans will upward push above the land interior the northern hemisphere poles will shift with out postpone inflicting a clean longterm ice age.

Simple. The Blown up pieces of the moon would clump back together untill it formed a moon smaller than what we have now and the ocean would probably be like a giant lake untill it started having waves again.

The magnetic dynamo effect created at the earth's core would slowly stop. We would then lose the Van Allen Belt, at which point in time, everything on earth would die from solar radiation. Oh yeah, and the tides would stop.

*edit* To ignatious, it's moving away at about 3.8 cm per year.

It would be the end of human civilization because the moon plays a every important role in the earths environment/protection, human philosophy, and human technology

I had heard the moon is ever so slowly escaping Earth's atmosphere by about 2½ centimeters every hundred years.

Hum, well the moon is a satellite so that would mean that we would have no protection from anything coming at us right.. the moon acts as deflector right? So i assume (maybe i shouldn't do that) that that would allow a multitude of things to happen to us

Well, if the Moon were to go "poof," and suddenly disappear, then one big change is there would be no more tides. That is, the oceans and sea levels would not fluctuate daily like they do.

Due to the moon's gyroscopic force on earth, we'd experience a tidal problem............until we went out of our own orbit, and were all killed. Just a guess, but i'd say that it'd be untidy.

Who knows, but nobody would be here if the earth where destroyed.
