Hands down... The Office - the original, UK version.

The best sitcom ever in the UK was, LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR - because of its controvesrsial subject matter. No one would find it funny now, but it can NEVER be repeated - so this instantly makes it a cult show - hence makes it the best.

The best US sitcom was undoubtedly, MY TWO DADS - it was heart - renderingly side splitting from the very fist moment to the last. I wont bore you with the plot details but the guy who played the evil scientist trying to save the monster that nearly killed Ripley (Sig Weaver) in Alien, was in it. .

UK - has to be Two Pints of Lager. Brilliantly drawn characters in absurd yet strangely plausible situations.

And guys, please... Monty Python was NOT a 'sit-com' - it was a sketch show... even though they often kinda ran all the sketches into one amorphous entity.

US - If I can't have Futurama (SOOOO much funnier than Simpsons you short-sighted and daft Fox execs!) I would go with the whole 'Scrubs' thing.... who'da thought that America could have something that funny - that really has something to say too!!
If you haven't seen it you really must. It is really funny and very clever too, yet it lurks at odd times on strange little 'digital' TV stations.

But I'm upset at having to not mention Father Ted, Fraiser and seasons 2-4 of Only Fools & Horses.

The Young Ones , Father Ted and Porridge can't be beaten on this side of the Atlantic, which Scrubs firmly flies the flag in the US.

Currently: The US version of "The Office." The UK version is funny too, but honestly, I have a hard time understanding their accents <:-)

For UK shows, I have always LOVED "Absolutely Fabulous"

If you mean of all time, then probably - UK Fawlty Towers, US Frasier. Both are over-exposed on Sky now, but on first viewing, there was nothing to beat them.

UK - Only Fools & Horses.

US - Married with Children (To be honest, the ONLY American comedy I have ever laughed at!)
