5w20 and forget all the crap about synthetic oils. The new oils are so pure now that they are barely different.

Do not waste your money on synthetic oil. Your car is neither old enough, beat up enough, nor foreign enough to buy synthetic oil. Any brand of oil from your local auto parts shop will be sufficient enough.

As to the viscosity, it really depends on where you live and what time of year it is. In southern or hot climates it is best to use an oil that has the highest possible "ending weight." For example in 10W-40, 40 is the ending weight or weight that the oil acts as when the engine is at normal running temperature. The higher the ending weight, the thicker the oil is at high temperatures, which is a good thing. Likewise you also want the lowest possible beginning weight because the thinner the oil is when starting up, the easier and quicker it is to lubricate the parts of the engine. In 10W-40, 10 is the beginning weight. In colder climates, you want as low a beginning weight as possible.

I would recommend any of the following weights for your car (they are listed in order of preference): 0W-30, 5W-30, 10W40, and 10W-30. NEVER buy a single weight oil; you will destroy your engine. 20W-50 will work, but you will get some damage when starting your car (the beginning weight is too thick).

Always use synthetic oil for a new car like a Mazda. Check the API specs and the widest range of viscosity, e.g. 5w - 40w. But the most important thing is to change it together with the oil filter every 5000 miles.

There is only one recommendation for oil. Full synthetic. I don't care what anyone else tries to tell you, the full synthetic will protect your engine better than any other type of oil. I have used it for ten years in several cars and all have exceeded 100,000 miles with no mechanical problems at all.

Oil from the dealer is always best.

It doesnt matter how much you drive or how far..just keep your oil changes on time (every 3-4K miles)
