I was a memberof the Y about a year or two ago but 3/4 of it was sponsored/paid by my employer. They discontinued the program. I looked into joining w/my husb & daughter and was wondering if anyone had anything to say about the Y. For kids (6/yr girl) any mom & child activities, swimming and so on. let me know ur experience w/kids there.

The problem I had with they is that they schedule the use of the various areas so that you have to work your schedule around the availability of the facility which is constantly changing. Join a private club. It's not that much more expensive, and you will be able to use the facility almost anytime you want.

There're swimming lessons of course, those are practically universal with every YMCA you run across. Maybe you could get involved with your daughter's swim lessons but I've never heard of such a program that you're looking for that is given at the Y.

Compare what they offer and the price to any progams your local park district offers. If you just want to do swimming and tennis lessons, for example, it may be cheaper to go through the PD than buying a whole YMCA membership.
