Normally the ankle never returns to its 'pre-sprain' strength or durability.

Once you've sprained it, it's quite simple (although not as painful) to sprain it again.

My left ankle - I'm at about 11 times, and about 7 times for my right..

Long term? My ankles make funny clicking noises when I rotate them, and I'm sure somewhere down the line arthritis could develop... I make sure to take plenty of calcium and other vitamins/minerals to help.

Surprisingly enough - a beer a day can increase bone mass and Omega3's (found in fish etc) can help in tissue regrowth.

Hope this helps.

When you sprain an ankle, you are acutally overstretching or potentially tearing a ligament, not a tendon. Ligaments have a very poor blood supply and have very poor potential for healing. If you sprain your ankle without actually distupting the ligament, you may be fine without any problems in the future. Yet, if the integrity of the ligaments is disrupted, you may be more likely to sprain it again in the future because the joint is less stable. Many times, however, even if the ligament is disrupted, the surrounding tendons can help compensate for this. Our tendons and muscles have sensory and contractile properties. If they sense an "overstretch" they can react to contract the muscle in order to prevent excessive motion...this is called proprioception. One of the goals in physical therapy in treatment of a sprained ankle is to increase proprioception.

Best wishes

I've sprained my ankles a few times, and am not noticing any real effects. But you'll want to be careful not to sprain it again.

the ankle u sprained remains slightly bigger than before for the rest of your life, it is more prone to getting sprained again, frequent "popping" noise whenever you stand up or move your ankle around, arthiritis.

---it happened to me about 4 months ago....but then again ive been playing soccer for 9 years so that probly explains the constant popping of my ankles....

it depends if you have rested the ankle a lot and how you sprained the ankle

None. Once the tendon heals, you have little to worry about. A course of physical therapy as well as trying to stay off it while it heals is best. You can also try exercises at home
