Call them and don't take no for an answer. AOL is notorious for not letting people get out. You can say, "Please cancel this account." They'll talk for about five minutes and if you ask if they've cancelled the account, they'll say no. Make sure you confirm that they've cancelled the account and while you're at it request a refund for the money they charged you.

You get the free trial for a certain amount of days. Once those days are up, you are automatically billed every month. If you don't want to keep the membership, you can call them and they will cancel it for you with no trouble. I've joined and cancelled with them a few times.

Call AOL and tell them you are definitely canceling before the next payment is due.. Then telephone or write to your bank and tell them to cancel the mandate to AOL immediately.
AOL will then not get the next installment whatever they do.

I've been there done that. If you give them a sob story & tell them you lost your job & don't know how you are going to pay, they usually don't give you the 3rd degree. Just don't tell them your computer broke down like I did the first time. Then they were trying to sell me a computer instead.
