We have a lot of IKEA in our house. Mostly small things that hold up pretty well, and one couch that is still in very good shape.
We look at IKEA all the time for little stuff, and I have noticed that they are selling higher quality stuff than before. However, it is getting a little more expensive.
Overall, I think their furniture is worth the price. But clearly not the best quality stuff compared to other furniture stores. However, it is perfect for people that are constantly re-decorating, unless you have unlimited resources.

Most of the stuff at IKEA is very cheap, and not of very good quality, but good for the price.
If you try to find stuff of similar quality as what you find at IKEA at other places, it's usually more expensive.
There is some stuff at IKEA which is of excellent quality, but it isn't cheap anymore.
I would recommend IKEA as the only place to go shopping untill your home is fully "stocked". After that, you probably prefer quality over quantity, and you can shop expensive quality stuff elsewhere.
If you are shopping quality stuff from the start, you must live in a half-empty house for many years.
Go for IKEA!

Ikea is a great bargain, but much of it is made with particleboard, so it's not something you're likely to have in 20 years. They do have some pieces that are more soildly constructed, so check out one of their showrooms. Plus it is a big hassle to put everything together!

some of the designs are neat and if you're looking to save money, then buy there.although,i would shop around and compare prices of similar furniture designs to find the best deal.
how long it will last depends on how well you maintain the furniture, such as weight overload on a shelf or pets biting the chair legs or using an improper cleaning method that ruins the material of the item, etc.

You get what you pay for, the cheap stuff falls apart after a year, the more expensive stuff lasts fine. Mainly kids wreck mine!
