Don't know about that.

But both fish and dogs are definitely smarter than PETA.

I think PeTA (yes PeTA is how they write it) is full of $#!+ from what I've seen in their mag or rag and what I hear about them. If they say anything, they're trying to stir up trouble for someone. I hadn't heard this one until now, but I suppose they are attacking fishermen. Some rabble rousers constantly keep gullible people aroused about nutty causes. I got a letter from Hillary Climton on behalf of Al Gore in 2000 with their enemies list. I told them that they were at the top of my enemies list. PeTA and their dumb spokesslut Pamela Anderson have wars with KFC and Jennifer Lopez. One of their mags said I was "PeTA Enemy of the Month". I am so proud of that honor.

I have had several fish tanks in various sizes for the last 10 years. I have had a variety of different types of fish during that time. I also have 3 dogs. My fish don't act very intelligent at all. They aren't trainable and I haven't ever been able to develop any type of non-verbal communication with them. Some of them seem to have more personality than others but that is about it. My dogs on the other hand are very smart. They are trainable, they communicate with me all the time. I know exactly what they want. Actually, they have trained me (in a manner of speaking). I think my dogs are very intelligent.

Not necessarily. Guppies are pretty stupid. Oscars, however, are extremely intelligent fish. I think it's just like with people; some are pretty intelligent and others are pretty freakin' stupid. PETA is also not a very reputable organization. You have to worry about a group that used 'Got Beer?' advertisements to try and promote vegan awareness and get people to quit drinking milk because it's an animal product. o_O

PeTA says a lot of things that aren't true. Some are more divorced from reality than others. I hear a lot of claims but I don't see much supporting data; you can guess what that suggests.

YES, some fish are extremely intelligent (saltwater, ocean fish especially)

Here is an interesting article from England:

"Now, fish are regarded as steeped in social intelligence, pursuing Machiavellian strategies of manipulation, punishment and reconciliation, exhibiting stable cultural traditions, and co-operating to inspect predators and catch food."

Recent research had shown that fish recognised individual "shoal mates", social prestige and even tracked relationships.

Scientists had also observed them using tools, building complex nests and exhibiting long-term memories.

The scientists added: "Although it may seem extraordinary to those comfortably used to pre-judging animal intelligence on the basis of brain volume, in some cognitive domains, fishes can even be favourably compared to non-human primates."

They said fish were the most ancient of the major vertebrate groups, giving them "ample time" to evolve complex, adaptable and diverse behaviour patterns that rivalled those of other vertebrates.

"These developments warrant a re-appraisal of the behavioural flexibility of fishes, and highlight the need for a deeper understanding of the learning processes that underpin the newly recognised behavioural and social sophistication of this taxon," said the scientists."

AND Fish ARE trainable, like the goldfish that were trained to swim in formation:

Well that's a good question. Well pets is right and pets is wrong because a dog is loyal and can be teached and fishes have a smaller cranium then that plus it's smaller but I'm not sure I'll look it up.

I think PETA are a bunch of hippocritical fanatics. They are a bunch of malnutritioned, self righteous tree hugging hippies that have no proof for any of their stupid claims.
