After my boyfriend of four years left me for someone else, my self-esteem was DESTROYED. Actually, it was slowly being torn down several months before that, but that's not the point. Ever since the break up, I've been feeling unattractive and worthless. Everyone tells me I'm pretty and talented and blah blah blah, and I know that they mean it, but at the same time, it's hard to BELIEVE them, you know?

And I used to have a decent amount of self-esteem, is the thing. I haven't always been like this. Now I don't even like to look in the mirror, because I start thinking, "what did he see here that he didn't like?"

It's really pathetic, I know, but it's the truth. I'm TIRED of feeling like this, though, and I'm afraid it's going to stay with me even though I'm getting over the breakup itself. I don't want to feel like this forever! How can I start to feel better about myself? Does it just take time?

Work on yourself. The issue isn't with outer appearance. The problem is coming from the inside. Do something for YOU for a change. Take some classes at the local community college. Learn a new language. Take up a hobby like knitting. There are many places on the Internet that can give you a start to joining groups interested in the same things you are. Give that a try. You never have to have face-to-face contact with anyone, but sometimes just meeting people in an online venue can loosen you up enough after something as traumatic as a breakup to allow you to find "you" again. I know you're in there somewhere. You just have to find a way to get yourself back again. Good luck!

Do you have family and friends that can support or encourage you to have a better self-esteem? Don't give up on yourself. You have family and friends that love and care for you. I've been through a break-up this year with my fiancee' and I know what you're going through.

When I see your picture, I think, "Thank God that guy was stupid enough to leave her, cuz maybe I have a shot!"
:)

You're going to make someone a great wife and an awesome mother. And YOU will be the person that they will be hoping to impress!
