My office network blocks mySpace. But as a MySpace user, I can say a good page is a LEGIBLE page. Don't use a busy background that interferes with the visibility of your text. Do a dark background and light-colored text.
If you're putting songs up, record them at a volume that doesn't blow out the speakers on startup.
And avoid those cheesy sparkly pictures and animations all over the place. Cheesy clip art, surveys and sparklies are the bastion of people who don't know design from s***.
Lastly, mind your loadtime. If you are a musician, make your page load as fast as possible. People don't spend more than a minute browsing a profile, so you need to advertise FAST.
