YES. Ask anyone who has ever had major surgery and they will tell you that they weren't allowed to eat anything the night before. Why? In part it is because when electrical devices were first being used in surgery, intestinal gases would sometimes come from the patients, react with a spark from surgical devies, and ignite in the operating room.

Honestly, my brother-in-law can do it and usually does it at Christmas parties once a year when he's toasted.
What he does is he sits on the floor then lifts his legs over his head (knees behind his ears) then lights a match and lets a big fart rip and poof....a big flame!
We get a big laugh out of it.
I'm trying to get him to down a few mentos and then chug Diet Coke and then fart. Maybe his insides will explode!

Yes, you can really light one of your own farts. There are videos of people doing this all over the Internet, if you want to see it being done.
