I have a 6 year old compaq also, and it runs great, using windows 98se.. Run your anti-spyware program..do a disk defrag->start-programs-accessories-system tools, click on disk defragmentor, when that is finished-(will take awhile) then do a disk cleanup, (found in the same place, as defragger). Then click on start-run-type in misconfig, go to the startup tab, and uncheck all the programs that you do not need anymore. Do not uncheck programs, like your anti-virus-firewall..etc..If you are not sure, what the program does, put the name in the google search engine, and it will explain it for you. After doing that, you have to reboot your computer. That should help it go faster..good luck..

Okay, here's a serious answer.. you could replace the mb, and add ram, or, you could take the money it would take to do that and buy a new one.. or, even a used one that's faster than the one you have..

There is nothing you can do. It is what it is. Maybe go to the library and read some computer magazines. You gould do a google search..but I think you are stuck with what you got.

Go to an electronic store and buy memory cards for your computer, take the computer to them so they can get you compatible memory cards. Not all memory cards fit in all computers. That will speed it up some.
