Ipod is a huge marketing campaign. An ipod is an MP3 player. newer models support video as well.

Children are not responsible enough to care for a $300 toy. They all want one because of the branding Apple has done.

For my 11 year old, I bought a reasonably priced MP3 player for about $60. It is a Creative Zen I believe. She lost it a few times, left it outside in the rain, etc.
Over the last 12 months, she has matured more and takes better care of her stuff. In another year I might buy her a nicer media player, but it will NOT be an ipod. In my opinion they are fragile and cumbersome to use. If you buy an ipod, spend the extra $ and get a service contract.

an Ipod is a mp3 player. Its the same thing just different brand. There are many mp3 players but if your kids are 12 and 13, I would recommend something other than an Ipod. They break easily and I doubt kids at that age will be able to take care of a gadget like that. You can get a 256 meg mp3 player for under 50 bucks at fry's and other electronics stores. It might be a better bargain.

ipods are very overpriced (except for the video ipod) mp3 players. This means that they can store and play songs in and mp3 format, which is a way to put more songs on the same amount of space. If the 12 & 13 year olds care about fasion and trends and dont really care about music, get them an ipod. If they have tons of music and really enjoy music and you want to not be ripped off on a price get them something else like a CREATIVE ZEN TOUCH, CREATIVE SLEEK (just check out the creatives and maybe some otehr brands... try looking around instead of just buying the first thing you find)... oh and if you are getting an ipod, dont get a nano, i had one and it cracked the next day and they're extremely overpriced and fit almost no music on them.

iPod is just Apple's brand of MP3 player. They are overpriced and overhyped.

For something good for a 12 or 13 year old, I recommend the Creative Zen Nano (Plus) or something from Sony. These are good, not too expensive, and also pretty cool looking.

an iPod is a specific brand of mp3 player.
i would suggest a cheaper mp3... 1G should be fine...a 512MB mp3 player would be fine too. make sure it is a flash drive. they are more durable than hard drive mp3 players, and if the kid drops it, it shouldn't get damage, plus the music won't skip. also a lot of non-iPods come in many different colors, which should be very appealing to kids that age. samsung, sony and creative labs all make nice mp3 players, but make sure you read some reviews before buying.

You mean besides the price? I think the best for a 12-13 year old would be an mp3 player. They are not as expensive and you get more space for the $$. Plus, if they get damaged you're not out $68-$289.

the biggest distinction between an Ipod and the different MP3 participant is that as quickly as tunes are on the gadget, Apple makes shifting information off the Ipod complicated. in case you do no longer care to workout this function it does not easily count. some MP3 gamers do no longer help the AAC format, which Apple does. i in my opinion want a non-Apple gadget, as i choose some thing smaller than an Ipod and don't sense i'd desire to hold each and every music in my library at as quickly as.

It is basically the same thing. Ipod is made by macintosh and that is thier brand.. and then there are mp3 payers and there are now many diffrent companys that make them. You should consider how they will be downloading. If you have a mac at home then i would go with the ipod. If not consider something that is going to be compatible with your computer.

not much is different. an ipod is a very popular brand of mp3 player. i have an mp3 player which works easier, but ipods are cooler. for longterm use go mp3, but for the fad of the moment get an ipod nano.

ipod is the hip thing have; if you have too much money and no brain. i know lots of adults with them and they are forever seeking help to rectify problems. mp3 may not be trendy but it does exactly what you want it for, rip (record) and play music.
