When I'm at restaurants where the noise level isn't dominating I have no problem being conversant at the table. However, when the restaurant is noisy, I unconsciously start talking less and in softer tones making it even harder for others to hear me. It annoys the hell out of the people I'm with.

Irritated & miserable. I hate spending money on a good meal and having the noise level so loud I can't enjoy myself. Also I wish people would keep better control of their kids. I always ask to be placed far from young kids because some of them are just so rammy and run all over the place.

The problem is there are people who think it's funny to be loud and rude, but sometimes people need quiet and need peace.

I had just gone through a devastating loss in my life and after weeks of staying inside a friend came and took me out. We went to a really nice restaurant. Shortly after arriving (I was starting to feel so much better and relaxed) a group from a local business came in and began literally screaming over the classical music. I was sick to my stomach before it was over.

As far as eating somewhere else, sometimes people come in after you so you don't know you'll have a table of loud obnoxious people beside you. You would especially not expect that behavior that at a higher end restaurant.

Recently however, I have just begun to tell people like it is. After walking up to the table of the business creeps I asked which one was the manager. That person began to loudy make fun of me demanding to know why I was messing up their "good time". I quietly told him what I had just been through, why I was there and how he and his people had pretty much destroyed my evening. You could have heard a pin drop and people looked so ashamed. I then handed him my bill and thanked him for paying for my meal. He didn't offer I just gave it to him. He didn't have the nerve to give it back.

He finally realized who I was (I am media) and contacted me to apologize.

Well, if a restaurant is noisy, I can't hear any of my table's conversation. So, I just sit and smile like a dumb blonde!

When I am in a loud restaurant it makes me eat much faster than I normally do so I can get out of there faster. That is wy I stay away from them, I want to enjoy my meal

If I find a restaurant to be noisy when I arrive, I leave. I want to be able to talk to my husband or friends without having to yell to be heard.

I totally agree with you. I was taught not to be loud at the table. I like a nice quiet relaxing atmoshere. You go to enjoy a night out, when its so loud you gotta yell, I hate it. I would soon eat at home to put up with that crap.
