The Mayan Long Count Calendar only says the 12th Baktun is ending in 2012. It's like our calendar going from 1999 to 2000 except a Baktun is 396 years long. The calendar doesn't end and time doesn't end.
The other thing that's going on in 2012, is on the first day of the 13th Baktun, 12-21-2012, at dawn, there is a grand astronomical alignment that only happens every 26,000 years. The sun will rise against the area of the Milky Way the Maya thought was the birth canal of the universe and be reborn, signifying the start of a new world age. NOT the end of the old one (which ended 10-20 years ago).

Do not worry over possibilities.

Sure, astronomers have discovered a 'new' planet, on a massive elliptical orbit that could be passing inbetween Mars and Venus around 2012; sure the Sun's unexplained 'sun-spot cycle' reaches one of the biggest 'Maximums' on record, also on that date and sure, the Mayans correctly predicted the Sun's alignment to the 'Centre Line' of the Milky Way that will occur on the 21st Dec., 2012, considering that, to do so was until recently considered practically impossible for them, due to the complexities of such calculations.I have read some conjecture about the bible codes, that bring up "Asteroid", "2012" and "Earth destroyed", but the reality of that if dubious.
Try to think of it as our year 1999 becoming the year 2000, as that is pretty much what the numbers mean.
As to "The end of the world", that is not entirely the accurate translation. It should be considered more of a "changing of the current state of the world". Some believe this to mean we will see the dawn of the "Age of Aquarius".
Ultimately, the first day of their calender began on August 13th in the year 3114 BC(the time Stonehenge is considered to have first been built) and the calender doesn't actually STOP until the Earth nears the end of the 5th millennium(4772 CE).

If someone were to be able to predict your death, would you spend the remaining time fretting over the knowledge?
Or woud you use the time to do everything you have ever wanted to do, go places you have never been and strive to become the best you can be?

I know that's what I would do.

Worry will get you in the grave sooner than 2012. Just live the life you have to its fullest as who knows, you might even die tommorrow!

:)

No, because the calender we work to is the Roman one. The Mayans had no knowledge of this and even the Roman calender is flawed so we don't really know what year it is. We should, by now, be in 2012 since the Romans made a six year error in their calculations. I don't believe in ancient predictions since none have proved correct yet, despite sensationalist claims by authors (like Erich von Daningen) to sell books.

Have you ever read Doamin by Steve Alten; it's a great novel especially if you're interested in the Mayan Doomsday Prophecy because it puts a whole new spin on the idea.

the Bible says that no one knows the day or the hour Matthew 24:36 & 37 It could end at any time for any one of us so we need to be ready at any time. personally I think it's going to be even sooner than 2012. I like the year 2007 but that is opinoin and not bassed on any biblical evedence

Actually one can argue that the Mayan's world pretty much ended shortly after the Spanish Conquistadors came over, bringing with them the missionaries and other diseases.

According to some folks doing a study of the Great Pyramid, the chambers there supposedly calculated to the year 2000 or 2002?? (can't remember). Anyhow, so if those were true we would already be dead eh?

The way we're going, it could be gone tomorrow so let's partay!
