Engineering and medicine are not, necessarily, interesting careers, they just make a lot of money. You have to decide what is more important to you, making a lot of money, free time for family, personal achievement (fame), or freedom.

Your career is what you make it. If you like aerospace engineering but are stuck with bridge construction you will not be as interested as if you were working on the space shuttle.

My brother is a (very rich) doctor yet his job is so stressful he is constantly miserable.
A good friend of mine is a Aerospace engineer and loves his job. But he has to live so far in the desert that he often feels lonely and left out of life.

Personally I have found the path of the entrepreneur the most fulfilling. My income is directly tied to my ingenuity and I treasure my freedom most of all.

If you like a good check and don't mind working like a dog, I drive a concrete mixer. I have to go off road and do some crazy scary stuff. It is NEVER boring, but it can be a little nerve racking. Used to drive over the road, at least I'm home every night. When I get my paycheck, I don't feel guilty, or complain!
