Just curious how long tall buildings are intended to last. since I have no idea. One hundred years? Five hundred years?

I heard once on the Discovery Channel that they are built to last 75 to a hundred years.

It's difficult to say, it depends on the construction standards and materials. It is well known that American architects criticise British architects for "over engineering" their buildings - but- if the twin towers had been built in the UK they would have stayed up.

Barring terrorist attacks and earthquakes or other natural disasters....I'd surmise 50 years before they start looking ratty. Maybe it will depend on the quality of the electrical and plumbing utilities.

it can last a long time, if no terrorists plan on crashing into it.
