Many piercer's I've talked to are totally against it because it inflicts pain on a child for the purpose of what the parents view as pretty. (like the baby cares about earrings?)
Do you feels its better to wait untill the child is old enough to make the decision for themself?

Piercing in the lobe is painful.
Everybody's pain tolarance is different.

My statement is not illogical. Everyone's pain tolerance is different, and you can not measure how much its going to hurt a baby. I've pierced enough earlobes to know that some people find it painful, some people don't.

It would be less painful than a shot... however, I wouldn't recommend it, as it has the potential to get torn out, lost, swallowed, etc.

Then, there is the possibility that one day, she doesn't like them, and pulls the earrings out, allowing the holes to close... meaning a wasted $20, and a possible arguement ensuing.

In the long run, it would be better to wait until *she* wants it. After all... it is her ears.

My ears were pierced as soon as I was born. I may have a few issues (everyone does) but I don't think it comes from getting my ears pierced as a baby. I don't even remember the pain, and from what my parents told me, I didn't even flinched when my ears were pierced.

Your below statement is illogical. If everyone pain tolerance is different, then how can you state that piercing someones ear lobe is painful? Since everyone has different levels of pain, then there are a few people on this earth who won't find piercing their ears painful at all.

Piercing the ear lobe is not really painful because there are few or no nerve endings. What I would be concerned about is the baby inadvertently pulling or tugging at the earrings & potentially causing injury or infection.

Oh, and by the way, why don't parents put more thought into a really painful subject, which is the routine (unnecessary) circumcision of baby boys.

i'm with you in this one, piercings are a private determination and could be left till the youngster is a lot older amd could make the alternative for themselves. i've got observed nevertheless that a extreme proportion of the persons who get their toddlers ears pierced unquestionably had their ears pierced as toddlers themselves.

I personally feel that it is inflicting pain on a child for selfish reasons. I think parents should wait till the child is old enough to want to get their ears pierced. I remember when I got mine done, I was six, and soooooo excited about it.

1 yea, ya hurt the kid
2 it's a pain in the *** to heal any piercing esp on a baby
3 most likely you'll take em to the mall -> bad idea
4 if pierced at the mall there's a good chance they'll mess it up
5 the kid will flip when you try to change the earrings
6 most likely they'll close up b/c they hurt em so much

wait till the kid is old enough to make their own decisions, even if you think it's pretty or what not

It's apart of Spanish culture. Every Spanish baby girl gets their ears pierced. No girl would regret getting their ears pierced. It's also less pain so you don't have to scream and yell when you're 5 years old. I'm Cuban and every girl in my family has their ears pierced and never regreted doing it. Look at those tribes in Africa and all those countries... look what they do they put like huge holes through their noses and some tribes do that ring thing to stretch out their necks. They don't even have big hospitals like we do. They go through a lot more pain then getting a simple hole through their ear. It's also the parents decision on to pierce it or not. So don't try to change peoples views dude.

Yes, wait. You have no idea how much you could hurt the child and the less pain the better. Let them make the decision when they get older.

I wanted to pierce my daughters ears as a baby because she wouldn't remember the pain but her father was totally against it. So I waited until she wanted to get it done and I was glad I did. She was 5 when she committed herself to the idea and wanted my mom to take her. She made it into her own special day and got exactly what earring she wanted. It did hurt and the had to redo one ear but she was cool with it. It was like a rite of passage between being a baby and big girl for her. Two years later she is still loving the pierced ears!!

Wait until they are old enought to want it. What if your active 3 year old snags an earring and hurts herself? When I was little (the 80s) it seemed like every little girl (and many boys) in my elementary school had their ears pierced, I don't notice it so much anymore and doubt an un-pierced kid will be teased.
