You're an undergraduate as long as you're studying for your bachelors (the first) degree. Then you’re a graduate student, until you get your PhD. Then your studies are referred to as "post-doctorate"

Graduate comes after undergraduate and is much more specialized.
You get an undergraduate degree first, then, if you're "lucky" enough to get into grad school, you can also get a graduate degree. The time periods for both vary, but usually an undergraduate degree is 3 to 4 years and a graduate degree is 2 to 5, depending on whether you're getting your Masters or your PhD

"Graduate" students are students who have already attained at least a bachelors degree. Time is not a factor involved in classification between the two- for example ..even if a student has been in a university for say 6 yrs they would still be considered undergrad until they earn a bachelors degree. At a university graduate students might be Doctoral, Masters, or even non degree seeking students. Hope this helps =)

undergraduate is the first degree. an associates degree is a 2 year course of study. a bachelors degree is 4 years of study---that's undergraduate. a master's degree is 2-3 years beyond a bachelors and is the first of the graduate degrees. a PhD is the terminal degree--you can't get any higher than that. professional degrees such as JD for lawyers, MD for physicians, DDS for dentists, etc, are often also considered 'graduate' degrees.

The undergraduate is a 4 year program, and is an "entry level" college degree. The Graduate degree is considered a "professional" level degree. It is planned as a 2 year program, but some people take 2 years, some take 4, some take 8. It all depends on how many credits they take at a given time.
