Sometimes I do think British are racist, I've been here in UK for a year now and I haven't had a job yet, I've been looking and looking and I'm just wondering why I can't get a job? I'm a graduate of Management , I know I am qualified to any job because of my enthusiasm, I send all my CV to the companies I want to work with, I even applied for anything because I am bored of staying at home and I'm not used to it, they get back on me when they recieved my CV and I've been to interview but when they see me that I am not british and I'm in a different asian community, they ended up telling me that I need experience but how the hell can I get experience working here if they don't give me a job??? I'm really confused because i've done everything I can the only thing that comes up in my mind is that British are racist and i'm really disheartened about living here in UK but I don't have a choice I have to live here because of my hubby, tell me what you think???/

Actually I don't think it's got anything to do with race, at least not against yours. My brother tried to get a job recently and he got turned away from several places because of three reasons:

1. He was looking for a job to fill the summer holidays between his years at university and no one wanted to employ him for a temporary position.
2. He was white and therefore didn't reflect the multi-ethnic society we live in today.
3. He'd grown hsi hair out and they thought he looked untidy even though he was clean shaven and had worn a suit.

So to be honest, even if some British people are racist, companies can't be, especially what withs o many people out there suing them. If anything, they're racist against white people because they don't reflect multi-ethnic communities. And it's not just my brother this has happened to, loads of people, mainly white people, get told they're not adequate for a job because they're not of a different race.

So don't beat yourself up and don't think that everyone's racist here in the UK, some of us are really nice. Keep looking for a job. A lot fo teh palces are fussy. They know now taht they will always find someone perfect for teh job so they don't have tosettle for adequate. It's possible you're only puttign yourself out as being adequate for a job. You might be aiming too high in their eyes. Perhaps you need to look for a company with promotional aspects, apply for somethign slightly beneath youa dn then work your way towards the top of teh ladder.

As for experience. Screw that. Just say that everyone has to start somewhere or else tell the truth, that you've tried to gain experience but when everyone's saying the same thing, it's just that little bit tricky. And if they a company turns you down without explainign why, don't be afraid to phone them upa dn ask, for your own benefit rather than theirs. It's always helpful to know where you're goign wrong.

Its nothing to do with colour, its just the company you apply to, I left college with qualifications in computing and secretarial skills, I was told the same thing, you need experience, well if no one is prepared to give you that chance how do you get that experience, if your under 30 you might stand a chance if your over hard luck, as I found, at a lot of places its also a case of who you know and not what you know, have you tried agencies, you get to go to different companies and gain lots of experience that way and hopefully you could be taken on by a company you temp for, or better still how about setting your own business up, try the small business loans people they are very helpful, good luck hope you find work soon.

Just because you are Asian and cannot find a job does not mean British are racist. Your English is not fantastic, you don't have experience, you haven't been in the country long, and jobs are hard to find no matter your race.

You do realise that you are the one being racist instantly accusing British people (I assume then you are referring to British people who are not Asian) of being racist because you cannot find a job – you are no more special than anyone else, being Asian or new to country does not mean you will get a better change of getting a job than anyone else, this is the same for everyone in Britain.

Maybe they want someone with a better command of the language.
That was not intended as a facetious remark but an observation of your post.
Maybe try for something more humble.
It's easier to get a job when you're in one and I know about trying hard to get the first one.
I think you are (at best) being naive about playing the 'racist' card.
Some people might see that as a poor excuse.
To sum up, stop thinking you will walk into a top job you could have had in your own country and just get a decent one and work your way up.
There's no secret to any of this.

Now I think that's a typical attitude!!! As you said "The ONLY THING THAT COMES UP IN YOUR MIND" Can't get what you want, so all the British are Racist! With an attitude like that, what else do you expect. There ARE white people who cannot get jobs you know. You are not exclusive!! Unless you get rid of that chip on your shoulder, you will have problems.Could YOU be racist towards the British??? Think about it!!

I am white, born in England. I am a manager with 18 years experience, and have been applying for jobs for over a year now without getting anywhere. I do not make the leap to accuse racism. Plus in Britain there are rules against racism during recruiting and the firms can be sued for thousands if they are found guilty.
It is people who leap to a racism reason that cause prejudism in the first place.

I think you are wrong, just because you can't get a job doesnt mean that they are racist, i am sure they might be a few but you can not say all brits are so.
Get experience even if it means starting from the bottom. Go to hiring agents where its their job to find you a job.
Good Luck

Try - they are not racist, just picky! I have a friend who has also been out of work for 12 months, and like you has presented CV after CV and had no success. He was born in this country, is white and is well educated and experienced.

Why is he out of work? Because younger people straight out of college/university are available to do the job for less money!

It's not just you, it's the lack of jobs and the 40-50 people going for the same job.

Dear, it's not just UK - the same also happens in the US! You have to look for some kind of a training program for 2-3 months to get the necessary experience & they will usually take care of placing you in a good company afterwards. But you have to look for these type of training companies or consultancies first.
