It all depends on what type of rock you're listening to. And what kind you're into. The alternative rock bands (Yellowcard, Switchfoot, Relient K, Jack's Mannequin, etc) are pretty good. It's absolutely impossible to find a new classic rock band. If you know what I mean by that. For stuff like that, you have to stick to the oldies when the quality could be improved by getting some new bands with that same sound. Mainly, it's not the bands that suck today. Really, it's the lyrics. I've heard a million and one bands that have an ok or better sound but they can't write songs to save their life. I think parts of rock are in a bad time period now where others are flourishing. This indie rock? Complete crap (Who really wants to hear about Beverly Hills from a song?). Hard rock and screamo? Always been crap, always will be crap. Like I said, parts of rock are good at the moment, others are absolutely utterly horrific. It's almost like you can't say "I LOVE ROCK MUSIC!" anymore. There's just too much to classify as just rock. It's starting to become the same thing with other genres of music. Country for example. If someone says they like country, people just to the conclusion that they like that kind of music where the persons whining like "my brother dieddd and me wife left me..." Actually, they couldn't be more wrong. That was the country of yesterday. Todays country is much better when it includes Rascal Flatts (who adds a bit of a rocking vibe to some of their songs). It pretty much all comes down to what type of rock or country or pop you listen to. You could say any kind of music sucks and still be wrong because you'll find songs you like in genres you supposedly hate. It's completely debatable. Hope this helps. =]

The best rock music came from the 60's. That's when bands played their instruments in songs, and had true meaning in their lyrics. Most speaking of peace and their disagreement with the Vietnam war. There was also great rock music in the 70's until Disco became popular, which killed rock music. Then in the 80's rock came back with a new Metal sound. Hair-bands as they were referred to. That was one of the most fun and memorable times for me in music history. But also in the 80's, we experienced new technology in instruments - the synthesizer. That invention made it less necessary for bands to actually play their instruments, thus creating a computerized sound that came from a computer. Then in the 90's came Grunge. It was great at first, but their message was all about how bad their life was, and how they wanted to die etc. It got so repetative. Also it killed the "Hair-bands" which so many people enjoyed. Now, we have hip-hop or rap. This is the worst music ever. Yes I agree that the beat is cool, but what are they talking about. Nothing good. "Ridin' Dirty". Is there anything positive you can get out of that song. No! "My Goodies" Come on people. This is what killed good music. Stop buying and requesting this crap. It's killing our youth.

I would suggest that you listen to music from the 60's, 70's & 80's where they didn't talk as blatenly about sex, and for darn sure didn't talk about killin' a thug. This generation idolize's "Thugs". We have to now kill this kind of music. Theres your answer. Hope it helped you and everyone else who read this.

Rock doesn't suck now, mainstream rock sucks. This is still plenty of stuff that we just don't get enough exposure to because record companies would rather invest in what they see as an easy sale instead of taking a gamble on something that is different. Hence all the emo crap. I swear I hear one more band that is trying to be Coldplay or Interpol I'll eat a bullet. I've actually found a whole slew of solid new bands through the Launchcast radio in Yahoo music that I never would've found otherwise, you should check it out.

Vanilla Ice. He forever changed the crappieness of music. Rap did, too. If there was no rap or country, Rock would rule the earth. It still does for the die-hard rock fans out there. I know i am.
Rock was insane in the 80's and 90's, but now you got, like, posers and stuff. I wish it was the 80's every year.

Good music isn't dead, it's just not played on pop radio stations. In order to hear good music, you have to listen to a rock station, and even then, they still play some crappy stuff, like grunge rock. Rock music isn't about how you feel, it's about sex, drugs, and fast cars. It's about partying, not sitting at home thinking about slitting your wrists.

I think musicians are getting away from good music and getting into trying to make statements about everything. I don't care about political views, I just wanna hear good music.
