DC is good because,
many good paying jobs
lots to do, museums, nightlife, all sorts of culture
lots of ethnic food
proximity to both mountains and beaches, 2-3 hrs drive either way.
reasonable climate, it can get cold but doesn't stay extremely cold for more than a few days at a time during winter, not much snow and while it does get hot it is usually not unbearable.

bad because:
traffic sucks
house prices are unbelievable

Definitely Denver. I can't even address Albany...not in the same league. Boston, DC, Chicago and Baltimore are congested, polluted and expensive. The people for the most part in Boston, DC and Baltimore are self centered, unfriendly and always in a rush to get someplace. Chicago is just slightly better in that department. Denver and the rest of the Rocky Mountain West is very different...life is much more laidback, people are much nicer and seem to enjoy themselves more. The air is cleaner and the congestion is nowhere near what it is back east. The cost of living is lower than any of the ones you mentioned, with the exception of maybe Baltimore...though I wouldn't compare the two in any other category. Denver has so much going on...outdoor recreation is unsurpassed there...hiking, skiing, climbing, etc. The city has an amazing pride, the sports teams there...the Denver Broncos (NFL), Colorado Rockies(Baseball), Colorado Avalanche(NHL) and Denver Nuggets (NBA) sell out there games consistently...it doesn't matter if the teams are winning or losing, people turn out. You have to love that. Go visit, it's difficult to describe how great the city is..

They all suck... LOUISVILLE is better because you get big city amenities with small town affordability and safety.

Louisville has the one of the best park systems in the US, (designed by Central Park architect Frederick Olmsted), the largest city owned forest in the US, a bustling nightclub/ eclectic shop district in the Highlands & Frankfort Ave, the Largest Victorian Neighbohood in the US (Old Louisville). It also has the St James Court Art Festival, the largest outdoor art festival in the US. The city has 5 NPR stations & 3 PBS stations - more than most big cities.

Louisville is also a major center of medical research -- the first hand transplant, self contained artificial heart transplant, and the first HPV vaccine were all done in Louisville.

-The song "Happy Birthday" was written in Louisville.
-The first public showing of Edison's electric light bulb was in Louisville

I personally love Chicago, but if I lived there I'd want to live downtown. There's tons to do, museums, Navy Pier, magnificant mile for shopping and some amazing resturants as well. Very clean city and some great architecture.

Batimore, Maryland. It is a university/sports city with world renowned hospitals. Has two major sports teams. It is on the Chesapeake Bay and it is the land of pleasant living.

Given the choices I would pick Denver Colorado. Affordable, lots of high tech jobs, lots of recreation sites, clean air, nice friendly culture, relatively mild winters(for 5300 ft elevation).

I guess Chicago because it is the biggest and has the most to do... but personally I'd pick Boston or Washington, DC over Chicago because they are east coast and I like it over here... I don't think I'd dig the Midwest... it has a different swath of people, a different attitude, one which is fine, but not my personal taste.

Denver Colorado because outside the big buildings there's a whole damn state that's worth seeing by living there.
