We will start with the presumption that we are healthy, well adjusted, mentally sound 18 year olds. Then we tell the ten year old that we are flattered by his affection but that 10 and 18 are just too different. That there is still room for friendship and that he should look for a girl in his own school/grade to hang out with and that he could spend his time on. And make sure his parents are up to speed on the situation. Children feel very real feelings too and his parents will be the best people to deal with him in the long term.

You need to be VERY carefull.

The boy is just beginning to figure out that girls and boys
can relate on a different level than "dooty head". How he
"performs" with you may effect his self confidence for the
rest of his life.

That should scare you. It can be a very dangerous thing.

Unless you find him completely obnoxious and hate the site
of him, I would say something like "Hmm... I like what I see.
Go get yourself some experience, learn to be all that a
woman needs, get yourself some self confidence ... and
then come see me in about 8 years."

A *LOT* can happen in 8 years. He will probably forget all
about you. If not, well, he will probably have at least developed
some kind of self confidence and be able to handle rejection
from you better than when he was age 10.

However, you have made this a constructive thing rather than
"Oh God, you're so young, how could you even think you would
be attractive to me..."

If he has a crush on you for the next 8 years, well ... there
could be worse things. At least you haven't kicked him in
his manhood before he really even has a manhood to kick.

This is completly normal, it is not love, it is a crush, or infatuation. Don't play into it, but don't ignore him either. He is probably seeking a friend and confusing feelings or admires you and dosen't understand or care about the age difference. If he keeps flirting or infatuating for more then three months talk to his parents or directly to him if you feel he can handle it. If it becomes a nuisense or he becomes obsesibe spend less time together. It is normal though, and not a big deal, take it as a compliment.

A ten year old cannot fall in love with you. I doubt he knows what love is. As for the 18 year old, they'd better have the common sense to stay away from the 10 year old child.

I had this happen to me, but it was an eight-year-old boy. He's not really in love, he's infatuated you. He's decided you are super-awesome, and probably pretty, probably because you're being nice to him. Just pretend you don't know that he's in love with you. Steer away from any of those subjects. You can just look at him as a young, adoring fan and kind of ignore the fact that he likes you. Eventually, he will forget about you in favor of girls his own age.

He's ten. Ten year olds love their teddy bears too. I wouldn't take it too seriously. Be polite and nice but I think he'll get over it. If not, when he's eighteen and you're 26, you can discuss going out on a grown up date, where as now, you'd probably have to go to Play Place at McDonalds or something.

That same situation happened to me before but "falling in love" isn't really a good word to use to replace a mere
"infatuation".

Gosh, back then I got flattered of course...elated but didn't do anything further to encourage his advances--geez,that's so corrupting minors!!
haha.cute but just not acceptable.

It's a good feeling but I'm the older one back then and right senses told me to tell him to find someone his age.
He's dating my friends younger sis and every now & then he comes seek for advices so we remained good friends through the years which is healthier as respect is mutually shared. :)

I would say to the 18yr old, STAY AWAY. First off, it is ILLEGAL! Second, that boy has way too much learning to do! He is way too young to understand what love is. The 18yr old should know this. If sex is involved, STOP IT!!

Nothing. At 10 I'm sure he has no real perception of what love really is.
