I was in the same situation back in 1993. I had a plan to go to the Dominican Republic and serve there for 2 years. I also had a girlfriend who was "the one."
I decided that I had to go, and if she was the one, then she would be around when I got back. Mind you, I was 24 and she was 21, so it's not like we were just out of high school or anything.
She ended up signing on to serve as well for 18 months. She was way up north in Canada. We wrote. Our love grew. We kind of drifted apart over the long time away.
I came home, and she followed a few months later. It was like we never left each other. It was love. She was (and is) "the one." We were married in 1996 and have been having fun ever since.
It doesn't work that way for everyone, but it did for us. Remember: it's never selfish to serve other people. Good luck to you (I know that the decision is a hard one.)

If this is your dream, then go for it honey. Your boyfriend needs to be willing to give you the latitude to chase your goals, & to do so with support....just like you would for him. You both need to discuss this, but if he isn't willing to work it out long distance & *wait* for you, then maybe he just isn't the right man for you.
I'm sorry to say that, but it might be the case. I threw away my dreams many years ago for a man who sounds a lot like your boyfriend. We married, have since divorced, and I know now in retrospect that I should never have given up on my goals just to complete his.
Joining the Peace Corps is one of the least selfish things you could possibly do, so don't even question that. Go. Live life to the fullest, help people all over the globe, make friends and lend aid. He'll either wait & be 'the one', or he won't, and you'll find your *man*.

This is your bf, one thing that I think all persons should do is live their dreams and do the things that may be contradictory during marriage life before getting married...I think if this relationship leads to marriage before you get this travel bug out of your system then it will become a bigger issue when it is less appropriate for you to pursue...follow your dream....it will lead you to were you should be...good luck.

Live your life! Follow your dreams! If your BF isn't willing to back you on this, ditch him! If he truly loves you, he will follow or wait patiently. If not, you're not missing out on anything special. Do what your heart (and your brain) tells you to!
Wouldn't your BF like it that you bettered yourself for your possible future together? If he's not thinking in that aspect, someone else will for him, eventually!

At the end of the day you have to do what you want to do. You only have one life to live and you should do it on your own terms. Wouldn't it be a damn shame if you didn't go and then you guys broke up in a couple of years ?

If he loves you and he is "the one" then Fate should work its-self out. Besides now a days its not "Till death to us part" Its
"till something better come along" Unfortunately.
