Under what conditions do you find yourself in denial? If you were in denial would you admit it?

I think it is hard to admit being in denial or even being aware of it since it seems to be a self defense response. I think people rationalize the hell out denial!

In my life, denial has worked like this. Yes I know this rotten thing has happened, I am not denying it has happened, but it doesn't affect me the way it would affect the rest of the population, I don't have to feel the impact, I can coast through this untouched. This, as I reach for the pan of brownies and the pinot noir chaser, change the TV channel, and turn up the radio. This is denial, busily avoiding the reality of the impact tragedy has on our lives.

I think if they where in denial they wouldn't think they were, because as you said they rationalize it in their heads so it all makes sense. It wouldn't be denial if they said they were in denial, that would defeat the whole purpose of it to begin with....

I fall into denial when I'm wrong. For me, it's temporary. the feeling as denial fades is painful yet refreshing.

You only ever get passed denial by accepting whatever malady presented to you. If any here fail to recognize you're depressed, schizo, bipolar, obsessive, panic-stricken, sadistic/sociopathic... then you need a lot of intervention and a 20k/yr pharmaceutical prescription, IMHO.
