Life.
The meaning of life.
So many ways to answer this question.
Life is a composition of moments. Beautiful moments. Sad moments. Selfish moments. Angry moments. Passionate moments. Moments to remember forever and then everything else that's in between.
The purpose of life is to make as many of these moments count as much as possible.
These moments must be memorable and bring wistful smiles to your face.
Everytime you think about your life's moments, you should want to go back just to relive the experience.
Life is about honour, integrity, patience, love, passion, respect.
You must have honour for yourself, your friends, your family, your work, your relationships. Everything. You act with honour and humbleness.
You must have integrity. Stand up for what you believe in. Do not be scared to have your opinions. Form yourself from the inside out. Do not settle for the thoughts and opinions of others. Have the courage to dream, read, love, walk, laugh, smile, everything for yourself. Do not live according to the stands of others.
You must have patience. Patience for the unknown. Patience for the moments yet to come. Do not try to rush because you'll miss out on everything. Have the patience to slow yourself down and breathe. Breathe deep and savour the air deep within your lungs. Taste life with every breath. Do not run. Walk in casual strides and save every image in your mind. Savour everything. Do not try to make things happen at a faster pace. Everything that's meant to be will be in good time.
You must love. Have the courage to love those closest to you and those you've never met. Do not act like you are above anyone. Love the little children who scream and laugh in the park. Love the old couples who sit on their porches and share stories of their youth. Love the roads for they provide the means to get to your destination. Love the trees for they provide your shade. Love the sun for it provides with the ever-elusive vitamin D and it provides you with wonderful warmth and a gorgeous skin tone. Love the moon because it is the only light in night. Love the stars for they are the blanket of night that allows you to feel that there must be something more. Love the homeless people that ask your for money because without them your walks downtown wouldn't be half as annoying and your pockets wouldn't be half as empty and you wouldn't feel like you actually contributed a little bit to mankind. Love caffeine for it keeps you up late. Love the doctors who have dedicated their lives to saving yours. Love the politicians who provide you with everything or nothing but good discussions. Love everything and everyone. For there is no time to hate. And love your partner regardless of her flaws because you have flaws as well. And that doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if you're imperfect as long as you're perfect for each other.
You must have passion. Jump into everything with open eyes and open arms. Feel everything with your full senses. Do not shut yourself off to the sensations of the world. Swim into the ocean with passion. Travel around the world with passion. Dedicate yourself to everything you do for each day could very well be your last. Passion is the root of success. You must be passionate about everything you do so that you can enjoy every moment. Even the pain. Be passionate about sharing your heart. Because even the memories will be worth the potential heartbreak. Be passionate about the chances you take. Or else you will have a bunch of boring moments and countless regrets.
You must have respect. Respect for the ground you walk on. Respect for the body that keeps you moving and active and ready to take on the world. Respect the parents or whomever dedicated a huge part of their lives to raising you. Respect the people who have the courage to make a difference in the world. Respect the armies who have dedicated their lives to fight for yours. Respect the world for it has provided you with wonderful food and water. Respect your friends. Respect money. Respect everyone. Do not ever think you're above anyone or that anyone's above you. It's all about character. So respect everything and everyone until you are proven wrong.
This is life.
The composition of moments.
The composition of moments that make you "you".
Life...
If it's like a movie that plays right before you die, make it worth watching.

I have not yet found a better answer to this question than someone elses words to me after a friend of mine decided he didn't want his life anymore.
"one cannot meaningfully speak of anything having a 'purpose' unless one posit some end more important to which the something is fashioned.
the purpose of democracy is to create an informed and responsible electorate. if it didn't matter whether people understood or took ownership of their acts democracy could be dispensed with.
the purpose of a knife is cutting. if one didn't need to cut there would be no call for a knife.
the us stops canada's bottom from unravelling.
....
there can be no 'purpose' to a life: life is all there is. nothing beyond itself could ever give a life meaning (or for that matter make a life meaningless) because life is all the liver has to measure by. talking about a 'purpose' to life is the same kind of classification error as wondering how to measure a ruler. "
I think Douglas Adams had something like that in mind when the master computer throws out the answer '42'. The retort 'did you know what the question you were asking was' simply means that the question itself is wrong.

By this question you are assuming that there is a meaning of life. You must first ask the followig:
"Is there a meaning in life?
and if there is, then you can proceed to ask:
"What is the meaning of life"
But the first condicion must be satisfied before we proceed.
If you want answer the first question, study philosophy in a formal way because the answers to that are legion and there's not an authoritative single answer, it all depends from your point of view and you motivation in seeking the answer.
You have just compunded almost all the whole of philosophy into that one question.

Life is such that all quesions have already been answered. If we try we can find answer to every question we have. We can only know our questions well as it is not often that an answer comes to us the way we like it to be. However, here is the one I found for you.
Imagine one day you wake up in the morning and find yourself on an unknown magical land far away from you home. You find this new world charming and beautiful. Its impact upon you senses is spellbinding. You look at this world learn admiration. You feel curious and set out to explore, seek out more of your newly found world. Then you look around and realise that there are other people like you around, and you learn love.
You realise that this is not only the world of beauty and charm but it is also a world of love and care. Then soon you also realise that there is no end to love and beauty here, in the world you know. You ask yourself question, and think – can there be more love, much more? You think and your journey begins. But you do not know where to go, where to find what you are looking for, and you no longer remember where you are from, where all the love, care and beauty of the world come form? You know inside that the origins of these things cannot be different from your own origins – simply because you feel them and you always feel at home with these things. You sense a subtle connection within that reminds you of somewhere that you need to return, something that you need to find, and somebody you need to be and know yourself as. You search; you travel, both in your mind and in your heart. You travel over on land and over seas. You try to be better and better as a person, you try to excel in everything you do because you know that one day you will face the true excellence and you want to make sure that your are worthy of it.
Our life is like this – a journey. We do not have exactly in view, as we have material things, where we are from but we have not lost the touch with our destination - we intuitively know what our purpose is, and that there should be a purpose. This is what we are to keep in mind here, to figure out from the life we have, what this life is about - and what it can be? What is the essence, and what is the reality of existence. Throughout our life seek the meanings of life. We improve ourselves and try to become better and better not only for the world we find ourselves in but also for an unseen destination. We try to transcend thought with our faith and try to excel the matter in search of our heavenly origins.
Life is a journey, and the purpose of this journey is to travel it well.

"Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder"
That means that what is beautiful to one person may be repulsive or distasteful to another. The same is true with the meaning of life. There is no 'right' answer. You just have to find what life means to you, whether it be family, career or some kind of personal or spiritual development.
One of the most important things in life is to imagine yourself lying on your deathbed. Think of all the things that might make you say "I wish I'd done more..." or "I wish I had tried..."
Now is the time to do more, to try. What you do and what you try is up to you.

I believe in and follow information from the group of entities called The Evergreens who state:
The purpose of life is to learn, and share learning with others, The purpose of life when you are thirsty is to drink; when you are hungery, to eat; when you are tired, to sleep. Whenever there is one who has fallen, to raise, that when you are fallen, to lift your hand so that another may extend theirs and lift you.
The purpose of life is to work so that there is manipulation of the world, not the world that it would manipulate you. The purpose of life is to experience the experiencing of experience.

Because life ends, the most precious thing in it, the thing which has the most mening, is your time. The meaning of life is how well you employ the small portion of time you have.
