Could be either. I felt my baby moving at 13 weeks. He sat quite near the front with the placenta at the back. The midwife told me average is about 16-18 weeks, but 12 weeks isn't unheard of. Then again, it may have been just gas. If it was the baby, he/she will be bouncing around enough soon to know for sure.

It could be the baby moving, but be careful - it could also be that you just have something coming through your intestines. The feeling for some is supposed to be really similar.
I started feeling my baby at around 3 months, which really is a tiny bit further than you are right now, so it could very possibly be your new baby! I remember the first time I felt it. I was walking from my truck in my work's parking garage on my way in early in the morning. It was the coolest feeling in the world. You could actually feel it with your hand if I leaned forward really far in my chair. It was a definate thump. Try having something with sugar in it and sit at your computer leaning forward towards your keyboard. Maybe you'll get another thump!

Some woman can feel the baby moving before others. There is no solid time line. Don't worry about it until you go and see your doctor. Chances are you are only 12 weeks, but if they are doing an u/s, they will be able to tell you for sure.
Good luck.

First pregnancies, usually baby can be felt between 16-20 weeks along. If this is your second or third, it is very possible to feel movement as early as 14 weeks. Rarely felt sooner than that.

If you're really only 12 wks, I doubt that what you felt was the baby moving. Usually that happens around 17-20 weeks.

Some women can feel the baby move as early as 12 weeks. Especially if you have a thin frame.
Some women confuse the feeling with gas and vise-versa.
Enjoy it! Was my favorite time during pregnancy!

You can't really tell till the ultrasound. But maybe. I never felt the baby that early, But it could be if your period was irregular the month before it is a very good possibilty
