Why is it that complete strangers think it is ok to come up and touch a womens stomach because she is pregnant? Just because a women is pregnant doesn't mean that her stomach is all of a sudden public property. Havent people ever heard of personal space? 9 times out of 10 they dont even ask. As far as I am concerned thats rude. If I don't know you don't touch me. Even if I do know you, if you are not my husband ask before you atomatically think it is ok to touch my stomach. On that note how come people just consider you and incubator when pregnant? It's always hows the baby? and is the baby moving? Again they go straight for the stomach and start talking to it. Hello I am the mother aknowledge me first then the stomach.please.....Any thoughts?

I am not currently pregnant, but it is something that I have seen and it has always bugged me. I told my husband when I do get pregnant that with the mood swing I probably will snap, I dont like people in my personal bubble, only he is allowed to touch me when ever he wants because its his baby too. And I will FILP if some random stranger touches my baby after its born..

This happened to my best friend all the time. She would get so mad. When she had her baby she thought all of the "touching by strangers" was over. Then she went shopping one day and this guy, a random stranger, kept touching her new daughter on the hand and face. She finally told the guy to bug off in not so nice terms. All I can say is that some people are just weird. I would never go up to someone I don't know and touch their pregnant belly. If someone does it to me when I start to show, I'm just going to rub their belly right back. You should try it, maybe these "touchy" people will get the hint. Good luck and best wishes.

it's ok, all mothers to be ask this question, and each of us all are equally annoyed, unfortunately, it will always happen, personally I'm not extroverted enough to come out of my shell and actually touch a random stranger, how strange! But some people are ok with it, and some people are ok doing it! O well...that's just the way it is I guess.

yeah, lighten up. be glad that your pregnancy is bringing people closer to you, people that maybe otherwise wouldn't even care to come up and talk to you. your pregnancy is making friends of strangers, enjoy the attention (even if it is focussed on your belly) cuz once the baby comes then you really won't be getting any attention at all. americans are so obsessed with distance and personal space, other cultures are not so cold. if people ask about the baby say jokingly "the baby's fine, it's mama that needs some attention!" then i'm sure these "strangers" will be happy to talk to you about your pregnant experiences.

I know exaclty what you mean, it didnt happen often to me but when it did it was soooooo annoying, my bigger peave was when my family or friends would touch my stomach before I was even showing yet! HELLO thats not the baby thats my belly fat. I mean how would they feel if i started grabbing and talking to their fat as ses?

i totally agree with you, you should make a maternity tee-shirt that says something like, "Don't Touch" or "Hands Off", that might work and would be cute
