tone to our mood? When we're sad, we listen to sad music. When we're happy we put on something upbeat- angry-something hard and fast. Wouldn't it make more sense to tailor our musical choices to help assuage our grief- listen to calming music when angry, something uplifting when sad? Or is music inherently soothing and we yearn for something similiar to what we're going through?

Just curious of your guys' thoughts on it. Thanks for taking the time to answer. :)

Many people are afraid of what they don't know. They reject it or make assumptions about it. In a similar way, people like to be able to relate to things--a similarity makes this a familiar feeling, so music that relates to the emotional state they're in is comforting. If they're sad, it helps to cheer them up. If they're happy, it ups their mood even more. If they're angry, it cools them down. The upbeat, happy music tends to go with happier lyrics; slow music, sadder lyrics; hard, fast music, angrier lyrics--it's just a mold today's music tends to fit into. Whatever the situation, people like to relate, and music can do just that.

I think its got to do with how well you related to what the artist is saying/feeling in the song. You hear it and fully understand what is being said to you.
I think it works the other way too though. For example if your in a great mood because you..won the lotto or something, if you hear a song (not necessesarily a sad song) that reminds you of someone you lost you cant be dragged down from your natural high.

The music tends to modify our thoughts and this makes it easier to express (and therefore process) the emotion we feel.

Emotions that are unexpressed often end up being suppressed from the conscious mind. Expressed emotions tend to lead to a better healthy balance. The music helps.

I need to hear music that expresses the way I feel. Sometimes, if I try to go against the emotion I actually feel worse.

It relies upon very plenty on what you consume and what you're donning. particular scents draw them, particular meals and outfits colour. positioned a style of fabrics softner sheets on your pocket, the flaws that are used for anti-draw close and upload a heady scent.

because its comforting to know that your not alone... and also, i think its because we like to feed into our emotions, and instead of listening to something thats going to make us feel better when we are sad, we just want to feed the feelings...
