The rear axle nut will not stay tight enough against the drum, therefor the wheel has play in it and it is getting worse. I am not sure if the axle is being ruined because there seems to be too much play with the drum but the splines on the axle don't look like they are being worn out, but it shouldn't have any play right? It must be the play between the axle and the drum that is loosening that nut. But the axle nut was not staying tight before the play developed. What do I need to do?

usually the drum will need replacing as once it is run while loose it wears rapidly but also check the wheel bearings ,they are not the normal tapered bearings.they are a fixed race ball bearings with no adjustment.

3/4 or 1 ton must be what you have. [TYPE 1]Just a thought, but did you lose the little thread wedge? If you just put wheel bearings in that critter, you didn't get the races all the way in there, and you need to pull them all the way in against the shoulder. [TYPE 2]If yours uses the double nuts with the keyed and holed washer between them, you need to check the key that fits in the slot in the threads to make sure it is not able to spin, and make sure that you are getting the nut with the peg on the inside and that it is securely in one of the holes before you tighten down the second nut.

could be a broken axel. .....If you have cv axels then you have a bad joint or race mos tlikely, but most likely play from a hub is a wheel bearing, to check, raise car and then grab the tire at top and bottom then pull out and push in if it moves in that direction its a hub bearing. If you have solid axel in real then you might also have a bad c clip inside rear end or the race and bearing inside the rear end is bad or not installed properlly, thats a very dangerous thing, so get that fixed asap.
