The money is supposed to go to support you, not just give you cash. Do you know how expensive having and raising a child is? Ask your mom to show you the bills she pays and see what she pays every month. School supplies, doctor visits, clothes, food, the tv you watch, the place you live, all costs money. My bills are around 1800 a month and that's just for me and my cats. If I had a kid it would be at least double that.

It's entirely up to your mom to decide. In most cases the amount paid out is only the minimum amount required by law and is hardly enough to cover support expenses. While I do not know your personal situation I can say that $500 per month in most American cities is not going to be enough to cover all expenses. And it certainly will not cover college. I am surprised she is able to hand over 200 to you. I know that's not the answer you wanted to hear but I have children and have been through a divorce. I know well the expenses involved with raising children.

I think a portion should go to you, but it's just not your spending cash. It has to pay for a portion of the electric, water, food, cable, clothing, phone, etc. Everything in the house that you consume. Seems pretty fair to me. Growing up, I never got $200 cash a month. That's like a a $50 a week allowance.

Remember, your mom is supporting you by using those checks from your dad. Food, utilities, clothes and gas to haul you around is really expensive. You are very lucky to get 200 of it. I really hope you are using that money to put it away for college or a car, just not blowing it.

The child support is not for YOU per say........ Its to support you, to help your mother raise you and put a roof over your head.
The support is for the house, electricity, food, clothing, cable, Internet service and other personal items 4 you--
You are definitely lucky if you are getting $200

Does she pay the bills? She doesn't have to give you any of it. Does she buy your food, keep a roof over your head, pay for your extracurricular activities, school clothes and supplies? Most parents don't give the kids any of it. Count yourself lucky, you little ingrate. Geez. Unbelievable. Do you have any idea how much it costs to raise a child? Of course you don't. Well, it's ALOT more than $499.00 a month, not to mention the time, love and sacrifices involved.

You are getting $50/week allowance? I think that is a lot. Your mom needs the rest to keep a roof over your head and food in your mouth. How much do you think you would get if you had both a mom and a dad living in one house?

The child support is being used to support you. She has to pay to feed you, clothe you, put a roof over your head, etc. Child support is not a free check for the child to spend as he sees fit. It is the absent parent's share of the income needed to "support"" the child. You needing money to go to the mall, etc. is not supporting.
It is well beyond fair for your mother to give you $200 out of the child support check. She doesn't have to give you any. She just has to use the money for your needs. (i.e. clothing, shelter, food, etc.)

You're lucky she gives you any of it. I have news for you...supporting you costs ALOT more than $499 a month! Between your clothes, food, activities, the extra utilities, insurance and so on and so forth...you should be really grateful she gives you ANY of it.

Your mom also needs money to support you in ways you don't even think about. She's probably paying for health insurance, rent or mortgage for you to have a place to live, your groceries, school supplies, car payments and car insurance, gas to take you places, clothes for you to wear, etc. I think she's being very generous giving you that much per month. I'd quit complaining -- she doesn't have to give you any money at all.
