I want to try some new colors for my really dark skin. What would work for me? And, if possible can it be inexpensive? I'd rather buy it at a drugstore because I'm not super rich and I don't want to blow a ton of money on makeup. And please be specific- i only started wearing make-up twelve months ago at my then fiance's request. I looked great for my wedding in pinks and mauves. Also - it it would stay on during a workout that would be great too- I'm a cheerleader for the Dallas Cowboys!!!

really, anything works. drugstore makeup can be just as great as high-end stuff from department stores (ever see style or beauty magazines where they talk about their favorite products - and many of them are maybelline/cover girl/etc.?) i just suggest that with dark skin, avoid really metallic or too pastel colors because it can look ashy.

Eyeshadow should be the one type of makeup you should spend some money on. The formulas for other makeups don't really change as the price goes up, but with eyeshadow the pigments do get more expensive and so the price really does effect the quality. The more expensive shadows tend to be brighter (which you would want with dark skin) and stay on longer (which you would want for workouts).
Many companies offer palettes with several colors in it that can last you through a season until the new color palettes come in.

hi lauren, i just realized how hard it is for people with really dark skin to find make up that shows up and not make your lids look dusty or skin look unmoisturized. for shadows i would recommend the new i think it's loreal's brand HIP colors...and many of the drug store brands made for women of color.. milani (most drug stores) and iman i think is sold at walmart.... great shades that would show up on dark skin. Also a trick to make not so pigmented shades 'pop' is to use a cream stick/shadow stick (eye shadow in a stick form) under the shadow... the color will then 'pop' and show its true color without getting lost and blended into your dark skin. Foundations or concealers as a base under the shadow works well too. I'm not as familiar with foundations, but i'm sure you can't go wrong with a dark sheer tinted moisturizer.

I know you don't want anything pricey, but paying just a little more for value and timeless pieces, i would suggest a MAC counter. they have good pigmented products that usually take you a long way and that you may love.

GOOD LUCK!

Try Maybelline Shadow Stylist Loose Powder in Opulent Green, Elegant Pearl, or Casual Brown. Also use Estee Lauder More Than Mascara. This one is a bit pricy but worth it!!

You are a Cheerleader and you don't know what colors? Wow! That is pretty cool.
Almay and Cover girl have great eyeshadows
since you are dark skinned you probably have dark brown eyes.
try Almay's color "play up the brown" and Cover girl's "Country woods" they are both great.
just experiment with things that look good to you. And go with your favorite. Good luck! and have fun with make up!

First of all, I envy you like no other! Go you! Cowboys cheerleader?! wow.
anyway, back to your question--my friend has the same color skin and she looks fabulous when she wears creamy nudes, pinks, and neutral browns. You should also maybe try smoky colors such as black and smoky dark browns and plums, if you want the dark look.

I say get to experimenting and play around. Personally it depends what kind of look are you going for. If you want to be really flashy with the eyeshadow, make sure you tone down the lipstick and blush, if you wear any.

Go to one of the Dollar stores and buy a bunch of different colors and experiment. They have brand names and it's cheap.
