Podcasting is the method of distributing multimedia files, such as audio programs or music videos, over the Internet using either the RSS or Atom syndication formats, for playback on mobile devices and personal computers. The term podcast, like 'radio', can mean both the content and the method of delivery. The host or author of a podcast is often called a podcaster. Though podcasters' web sites may also offer direct download or streaming of their files; a podcast however is distinguished by its ability to be downloaded automatically using software capable of reading RSS or Atom feeds.

Usually a podcast features one type of 'show', with new episodes released either sporadically or at planned intervals such as daily or weekly. In addition, there are podcast networks that feature multiple shows on the same feed.

Podcasts are like radio, yet on the pc ... some have music, some have voice, and a few have the two, in basic terms comparable to radio. The neat ingredient some podcast is which you will acquire it once you like it, and would pay attention to it once you like it ... maximum are 'up' for from 2 weeks to a month earlier they are 'replaced' ... and maximum 'podcasts' are carried out so there's a sturdy 'overlap' time, so in case you pass over one while it first comes out, it is common to get it and hear it later ...

Podcasts are basically MP3 audio files that can be played on an MP3 player, or on your PC.

There are tons of podcasts available. Some are frees, some are not.

Anyone can create a pocast and send it out to millions of listeners. Try a few of them. Some of the people on the cast are terribly dry, and some are funny. You can find a podcast on any topic, automotive, computers, cooking, etc.

There was a time when you could download music from the web in a simple format, such as mp3 files.

Then rampant commercialism and RIAA/MPAA took over, and mostly you had to "stream" the music, so if you wanted to listen to it, you had to be connected to the net all the time.

Then someone invented downloadable files again. And since gay people with ipods are considered trendy, they called them "podcasts". Don't try to understand why, it's just the way it is.
