A lot of the 'old' people don't vote, they have put up with years of false promise from the government and know its just the same old rubbish time and time again so they get fed up and don't bother voting, silly really as a no used vote is a wasted vote and a lot of 'old' people whinge constantly about the government not doing enough for them or others in this country, they should get off their backsides and vote, if we all did and made a stand we might get a bit more notice taken of us, I really think its about time that 16 year old's were allowed to vote, a lot of them are working and paying taxes, if you pay tax then isn't your money been used to fund things in this country like anyone else's tax is, fair play I say, a lot of the younger end have very good ideas about how they see the future and lets face it aren't you our future, give the vote to people from 16 and the sooner the better.

Nobody should be allowed to vote as we always vote idiots to lead us I think nobody should have the right to vote anymore based on past performance the whole voting public should hang their heads in shame having Bush and Blair making havoc in the World. All people who want to be a Leader of a Country should sit a Leadership exam, questions set being based on very social and scientific principles by Nobel Prize winners. The person with the highest Leadership score would have power for four years and then a new election would take place by all contenders sitting a new examination to test their ability to lead. Psychological tests and Intelligence tests and Social ability tests - this way we would have the best leader available instead of Rich GROUPS picking a leader for us basically which is what is happening now. Power to the people our future leaders should be chosen through careful testing and examination - everybody else has to get a qualification to be in charge of anything these days even a burger van - so why not the Future LEADERS of this World.

It's the same thing with driving. You cannot drive if you're too young either, you have to be at least 16. But then people who are 90+ are still driving. I don't know why the voting age is 18 when you can start driving at age 16. It doesn't make sense. The adultery age should be 18 for everything. But to answer your question, I don't see why they shouldn't be allowed to vote, they are a part of a country, they're humans too, so yes they should.

I wonder who would think "no, don't let old people vote". I can argue that the AARP isn't doing anyone any favors, but that's not the question... I think old people (read: elderly) have the benefit of history and as they are still important members of society, I say they should be able to. The very young shouldn't be able to vote because they likely don't understand the impact of their decisions. They aren't yet paying taxes so they should have no say on how money is spent. The elderly might not be paying as much in taxes but you can argue they understand the responsibilities inherent in voting. Good question!

Young people don't vote because they assume none of the responsibilities of citizenship, like paying tax, so they don't get the rights. Old people are better informed than the young, the decisions of the government still affect them, and they have contributed to society during their lifetime. Yours is a silly proposal.

Well....you can't vote until you are 18 because you are considered too young (or not enough knowledge or grasp of the candidate's campaign promises ) to make an informative, intelligent decision. Not to mention you are considered a dependent not a decision maker in your home until you are 18. The elderly should have enough knowledge to make an informative decision. The only reasons I can see this not being the case is if they have a disease like Alzheimer's, or they have passed power of attorney to someone else....just my opinion though.

People under the age of maturity show little discretion in their choices, which is why they are not allowed to vote. Experience, believe it or not, causes the accumulation of knowledge and wisdom if one is open to them which is why most leaders are much older than the median age of the population. No, old people should not be prohibited from voting.

Define "old". The way I see it, old people should definately have a voice, as long as they are able-minded. They have seen this country through good times and bad. They've worked hard and made their contributions, and have paid taxes for all their working lives, and have made this country what it is. The younger generation will have their time to vote just the same.

With their years of experience an older person's vote is probably more accurate than a younger person's who tends to vote with emotion rather than common sense, so why should the older person not be allowed to vote?

most old people are the only ones that bother reading up on who they are voting for. If they remember to write down the name before they go to the polls, they vote informed
