Are the days of Ancient mariners, Sea Kings of old, and explorers like Columbus and Marco Polo gone, now that the majority of the Earth has been claimed and staked out? Do you think that there are still things yet to be explored or great mysteries on Earth to discover or has that age passed?

Most people think that space is the final frontier. But they don't realize that 75% of the surface of Earth's crust (namely, the sea floor), a vast expanse teeming with exotic life, has never even been glimpsed. Space is easy to zoom around in. It's empty. What's difficult is withstanding the thousands of tons of pressure you face on the bottom of the ocean. But once we have mastered the depths, there will indeed be a great multitude of intriguing mysteries to discover.

Unless you wanna try settling under the sea, or on another planet, yes, ALL significant land, except possibly some 20 square foot islands in the south pacific, has been claimed by someone.

Yes. Every year we are discovering thousands of new plant and animal species, and there is much about known species we don't understand. We haven't been the very bottom of the ocean (Challenger Deep in the Marianas Trench).

There are the artic poles that are ever changing, there is always the bottom of the ocean, we still have a lot to explore.
