I have a 2002 Grand am, about six months ago the air conditioner started to blow out of all three holes (dash, floor and defrost) no matter what setting I have it on I have been told that it is a vacuum leak. How do I fix this? I am a college student on a budget but it is hot in Texas, please help.

Your vent selection is controlled by baffles that regulate where the air will go. The super-cheap thing to do would be to duct tape over the defroster vents and the floor vents to prevent air from escaping through there--that would push more air through to the vents on the dashboard. If your car has the slider to direct where air goes, then its simply the little cable that connects to the selector coming off of its track, If its got the turn-style selector, which being a newer car I have a fear it is, these baffles are controlled by little motors that will open and close the baffles accordingly, allowing the air direction to be blended (like if you wanted 75% floor, 25% dash for example). It may be a brain box or electrical problem, which will set you back a pinch. The cheapest thing to do, like I mentioned is duct tape over the defroster vents and the floor vents, leaving the dash the only spot where air can escape. I know it may sound a little cobbled, but its a cheap way to effectively fix it.

Hope this helps ya out.

sounds like the vacuum switch on the dashboard, autoparts stores have some of the switches available, give them a call and find out if yours is and a shop would only charge an hours labor or so but remember this is only a guess. but thats what it sounds like from your description because it takes vacuum to change the vents and when there all working it sounds like its sending vacuum to all the vacuum pods

one of the vacuum lines came off or the door/flap is stuck inside the heater air flow for the floor / dash / defrost

One of your vacuum doors isn't working, if you take it to the smart guy I think your budget will be blown in one trip. This isn't a repair for rookies. If you do try and screw it up your repair bill will be a lot more.
