depends on who was punishing me. when i was younger, my mom would always yell at me. in order to escape the yelling, i'd go in my room for a few hours until she cooled off [i gave myself a time out, basically]. my dad would either explain the situation to me or send me to my room.

I am 28 now. So they don't do that anymore, but when I was younger they beat the crap out of me and grounded me.
