One of the things that Japan is known for is its low crime
rates. In fact, it might even make it to the top on the list
of things you like about this country. Even though things
are changing and heinous crimes are on the rise, Japan still
is one of the safest countries in the world. Shops having
their merchandise outside on the streets, or a woman walking(cycling) down the street by herself very late at
night is still a common site.

I've been to Japan and yes you're correct, violent crime there is very low. There are several reasons for this. First of all Japan has very strict gun control laws. Next, the amount of police on the street is higher than in most American cities. Lastly, for those arrested for a crime in Japan, almost 90% are convicted which I think is a pretty good deterrent to crime.

There is some crime, they have an organized crime ring called the Yakuza that is involved with extortion and drugs. For the most part, Japanese are very orderly and civilized, politeness and courtesy are valued and taught from a very early age, it is a homogeneous society meaning virtually everybody there is of the same race and speaks the same language. Some crime takes place, but it is at a lower rate than here.

The crime rate is very low in Japan because of their social structure. An individual's wrongdoing reflects poorly on the whole family. Nobody wants to embarrass their parents, who raised them or grandparents who still play an integral part in the family, so they are very law-abiding.

There is a low crime rate. Japan has very strict gun control laws, but there has been a lot of exposure of police brutality there, too.

There is still crime, and discrimination towards women, and rude behavior. Less violent crimes though, true.

I think it has to do with Japan having more honor and respect for the family.

In America, people don't give two hoots for their families...well, the criminals anyways.
